Neighborhood Watch
Neighborhood Watch is a nationally recognized program which has proven to be effective in reducing crime and disorder within communities. This citizen-organized effort can help you and your neighbors bring about changes that will improve your neighborhood and the entire Crete Community.
The Watch Group
Neighborhood Watch Groups are formed by neighbors who wish to join together to collectively reduce and deter problems around their homes.

The Police Department
The Crete Police Department will work closely with neighborhoods that have banded together to resolve problems. The Department will also provide copying services, present informative talks on topics selected by the Group during scheduled meetings, and conduct security inspections to help Group members improve home protection.
Despite the Department's capabilities, it is not always possible for officers to witness criminal activity as it occurs. However, timely reports made by observant citizens will alert officers to such activity. In fact, these reports are often the key to solving crimes and reducing Community problems.

The Watch Group Coordinator
The Watch Group Coordinator is a neighborhood resident who has volunteered to maintain a roster of participants; schedule meetings; disseminate information to the Group; and act as a liaison between the Group and the Police Department. Group members call the police directly to report activity.
Neighborhood Watch Group Members
Members of Neighborhood Watch Groups go about their day mindful of the safety their neighborhoods and their families. Members do not patrol the streets, carry radios, or intervene in criminal activity as part of the Neighborhood Watch program. As concerned citizens, Group members are the eyes and ears of law enforcement remaining watchful for unusual activity and ready to call the police when necessary.

Neighborhood Watch Group Meetings
Members determine the frequency, content, and location of their meetings. The Police Department will assist by preparing notices/invitations. The Chief of Police or a police officer will attend, as desired by the Group, and present information on one or more topics chosen by the Group. Through face-to-face discussions, the Department will become fully aware of neighborhood concerns and aid in their resolution. In short, these meetings will be what the Group wishes them to be.
